Graduates
Career Options We have training programmes that are accredited by the IChemE and the IMechE and complies with the requirements of the IET, the ICE and the RICS. It should be noted that candidates should expect to gain a lower second class Honours Degree as a minimum from a course accredited by the relevant Professional Institute.

We also include some general information on graduate entry, below:
Graduates Graduates who join Costain Oil, Gas & Process take part in the Costain Group Training Scheme that enables attendance on courses in such subjects as presentation skills, communication and networking skills, leadership development and team building skills. They also participate in a Professional Development Forum allowing face-to-face and online exchange of best practice. If a specific business or development need has been identified, Graduate Trainees will undertake external training courses, attend conferences/seminars or visit a vendor or supplier. In addition, they are also expected to gain experience on one of our construction sites both in the UK or overseas.
All of this training is considered essential to ensure that the new Engineers develop quickly into productive and creative design Engineers and achieve Chartered Engineer status at the earliest opportunity.
Graduates are immediately involved in real projects, initially under supervision but increasingly with more responsibility and freedom of action.
Further Education We offer a range of sponsorships to UK students on fulltime and part-time and distance learning programmes via Further Study Agreements (FSA).
To qualify for Company assistance, the study must be for a qualification, which is relevant to your existing job and is perceived to be in the long-term interest of the business.
To reflect our commitment to continuous professional development, we will reimburse the cost of yearly membership of up to two professional institutes recognised. E.g. The Chartered Institute of Building, Chartered Institute of Chemical Engineers, Chartered Institute of Personnel and development, Institute of Civil Engineering.
Graduate Forum The Graduate Forum operates as part of Costain's Graduate Training Programme and is run by the graduates. Its aim is to encourage network links in the sharing of knowledge and promote graduate development as part of Costain's Business Excellence. The Forum meets periodically for discussions and organises social events.
More than just work... At Costain, we know that graduates have busy lives outside of the office. However, we also acknowledge the need to provide an environment where you can get together on a more informal basis. Costain supports a 'Social Club' which is open to all employees for a small subsidy of £1 a month. Current benefits include discounted theatre and sport tickets and the annual Christmas Dinner... but other ideas are always welcome!
There are also various clubs and activities, including 5-a-side football, go-karting, paint-balling and visiting the local comedy store... not to mention the occasional trip to the local watering hole!
